After graduating from the University of Florida College of Law, Matthew Lufrano began his career as an Assistant Public Defender, then opened his own private practice.

In 2012, Matt was named Trial Attorney of the Year by the 4th Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office.

In 2017, the Florida Bar recognized him as a Board Certified Expert in Criminal Trial Law. He also served as the President of the Northeast Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Education

Matthew graduated from Episcopal High School. He attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate studies, was inducted into the National Honor Society and graduated cum laude with two bachelor’s degrees.

He remained at the University of Florida to attend law school. During his first semester, he received the Book Award for Professional Responsibility. Gaining early experience in the federal court system in college, he was a legal intern with the Federal Public Defender Office in Jacksonville.

Judicial Calling

Matthew has always felt the calling to be a judge carries enormous obligation to assure justice is administered fairly to all sides in our court system. His strongest commitment is to help ensure the public safety without compromising Constitutional guarantees.

After rigorous evaluation by his peers for legal experience, proficiency in law, professionalism and ethics in practice, the Judicial Nominating Commission officially nominated Matt Lufrano for a Governor’s appointment to judge. Matt Lufrano is the only county judge candidate to be so nominated.

Matt is the longest practicing attorney running for Duval County Judge and the only candidate that is board certified by the Florida Bar. His years of experience in law, which includes numerous litigations before a full court, is unmatched in the choice for Duval County Judge.

Matt fervently believes in the voters’ right to choose their judges, and holds in great respect the honor of being on the 2024 ballot.
